Community Service Procedure for USIU Students explained. I’m not so sure how much the community service procedure will have changed as a result of COVID-19 however when I took the class these are the requirements I had to follow.
Table of Contents
The first step is fairly simple, all you have to do is select the community service class on CX, and the code for it is CMS3700.
This is a list of all the places that have partnered with USIU for volunteer work. This list is only available after week 12 for some reason, I really don’t get it but there it is, at week 12/13 please make your way to the community service office on the first floor of the Frieda Brown Student center, they share a wing with the course advisors and the internship office.
This you shall do once school is on break, make sure you do a site visit, I mean this is just for you to be kind to yourself, you don’t want to bind yourself to a place you can’t cope with. Make sure you visit one or two or three places that are convenient and that are a good fit for you.
Now herein lies the challenge ladies and gentlemen. This part is a tad competitive, and I would strongly advise that you turn it in in good time. As I have mentioned before, I don’t know how much things have changed as a result of COVID-19 where community service is concerned.
However, if they haven’t changed much then I shall tell you that I was waiting at the office by 6:30 am and there were already about 50 students already lined up, no I am actually not joking nor I’m I exaggerating, that’s just the reality so if you are gunning for a popular place then just keep this in mind.
Once you have your letter then take it to the community service location you will be volunteering at, this is like the final step that will determine where you will be volunteering.
Why so? Because if you get there late, then they would have already filled up on volunteers they need for the semester, and you’ll have to volunteer someplace else, so maybe have a plan B and C.
The letter you just delivered is a contract between you and the place you will be volunteering at, once you and your site supervisor have signed, you will need to take that signed copy back to the community service office.
Why?
Because that is the only way, they will know where you will be serving for the semester, if you don’t bring back this letter you won’t get your lecturer to visit you at your volunteer location, thus failing the class and having to retake it.
A signed copy of the contract should make its way to the community service office by week 3.
There you have it, ladies and gentlemen, this way you don’t need to ask anyone, you can just come back here and make as much reference as you need.
If you have any questions about this, do not hesitate to ask them in the comment section below. If you found this helpful, do let me know in the comment section below and share this with someone who needs it. Until the next time, wear your mask and wash your hands frequently!
